A metal sauce pan is used for boiling water and sterilizing dirty rags. It is a better alternative to the soup can and is an essential survival tool. It takes up a 2x4 space and can also be used as a weapon, if necessary.
As a tool[]
The metal sauce pans main use is to boil water. You can put 1-3 water droplets along with a campfire and the metal sauce pan into the crafting area to sterilize the water. It can also be used to boil 1-3 dirty rags clean, making them safe to be used later as make-shift bandages. As the only large fireproof, waterproof container in the game so far, only the metal sauce pan provides access to those recipes that require more than one drop of water or more than a single dirty rag at a time. This can provide significant water savings when boiling multiple rags.
As a weapon[]
The metal sauce pan is only slightly more effective than your bare hands. When used as a melee weapon it causes moderate bruising but rarely breaks the skin, although as with all melee weapons, these attacks are deadlier in the hands of a combatant who is Strong and/or skilled with melee weapons. Unlike the other make-shift weapons, the metal sauce pan is incredibly durable.
