Corpses are exactly what the name suggests: remains of dead creatures. All map-roaming enemies and animals leave a body behind when they die.

One exemption is a Squirrel Corpse which can be found and butchered, but is not a map-roaming creature. It is considered an ordinary loot item for the purpose of game mechanics.

Butchering and Skinning[]

Dead bodies, both fresh kills and those found lying around, can be butchered for meat and hides, with trapping skill usually aiding in the process. The meat and hides carved will be of exactly the same condition as the corpse, so the older the body is, the worse quality yield it will provide.

Note that meat from Humanoid Corpses will appear the same as other meats at first glance, and it can be roasted or otherwise prepared as well. Consuming or trafficking in it, however, may lead to unintended consequences.
