A hex is a basic unit of the main game map. Each one represents a certain dominant type of terrain and is roughly one square kilometer in size. The available scavenging locations depend on the kind of the hex the player is currently on.
Each hex has its own Ground storage grid (20x29 spaces), as well as few campsites available for the player to use. Items left on the hex, on the ground or at the campsite, will stay there until player picks them up, destroys them, they decay or are found and picked up by the NPCs.

How being on this particular hex type affects visibility of other hexes around. Note that some items, such as Binoculars or Nightvision Goggles, as well as character skills and flaws, such as Eagle Eye or Myopia, may affect the players visibility, overriding the hex influence.

Movement:
How many action points it costs to enter the hex of this type. Note that player will still be able to enter the hex if he has less then given cost, causing him to lose all his remaining AP instead.
- Normal - movement into the hex costs 1 Action Point
- Hard - movement into the hex costs 2 Action Points
Specials:
Any kind of special properties that are affiliated with the hex of this particular type.
- Always contains a water resource - there always will be a water resource of at least one type (Lake, River, Marsh) present.
- Always contains trees - there will always be trees resource present.
- Always contains a Power Tap - there will always be a Power Tap present.
- Always contains rubble - there will always be some Stones and Pebbles present, with chance for Glass Shards.
- Blocks view - this hex blocks the line of sight.
